Avon Historical Society Cow Chip Raffle 2009

Thanks to Everyone for Making the Second Annual Cow Chip Raffle a Memorable Success!!

Avon Historical Society's Cow Chip Raffle continues to attract an increasing amount of attention. Weather forecasts were predicting some rain on Raffle Day. Turns out we missed the rain but got a little wind. Mr. Simmons explained how at least the cows were okay with the cold (vs. heat), which helps to explain New England’s continued success at dairy farming. The Event went on without a hitch, and everyone enjoyed every suspenseful moment. This year's winners were:

1st Prize....$250....Anna Harris

2nd Prize....$100....John o'Neill

3rd Prize....$50....Mark Nolan

Once again, thanks for helping make Cow Chip Raffle 2009 a memorable event and supporting Avon Historical Society's various programs and activities.

While we wish that everyone could win, we do hope that you make the very best use of your donations and attend one and/or all of the various programs held throughout the year - please see our Upcoming Events Webpage - as well as visit the various properties during the warmer third ot the year - if only to stop by and see what we are up to, maybe let us know how we are doing. Otherwise, please, be sure to check back on our website next spring to see about Cow Chip Raffle 2010.

The following are a sampling of photos from the event. This year's Stars were "Kermit," "Joyce," and "Fancy." We had a variety of visitors come to help cheer on the cows. At its peak, the crowd swelled to about 40. We had a couple of sharp dressed guys; a number of youthful visitors, as well as a dragonfly named "Bruce" that held on for dear life to Len's tuxedo during the entire event.
